How to Use Pumpkin Butter

Pumpkin butter is incredibly versatile as it’s more than just a spread. Here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy it:

  • 🍞 Spread it: Slather on warm toast, biscuits, bagels, or English muffins for a cozy fall breakfast.

  • 🥞 Swirl it: Add a generous spoonful to pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal for a touch of warmth and spice.

  • 🧁 Bake with it: Use as a filling for pastries, a swirl in quick breads and muffins, or a topping for cheesecakes and tarts.

  • Sip it: Replace the pumpkin purée in our Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe with pumpkin butter for an extra rich, spiced flavor.

  • 🍨 Top it: Spoon over yogurt, granola, or ice cream for a sweet autumn treat.

Pumpkin butter adds both flavor and natural sweetness, making it an easy way to turn everyday dishes into something special.

How to Make Pumpkin Butter

Start by cutting your pumpkin in half and scooping out the seeds.  Rub the inside of the pumpkin halves with oil, then place them down, with the flesh facing up on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with a tablespoon of brown sugar and roast at 400°F until the flesh is soft and caramelized around the edges, about 45–50 minutes. NOTE: Use a small baking pumpkin, 4 to 6 lbs, they are called sugar or pie pumpkin.

Once cooled, scoop out the roasted pumpkin and transfer it to a saucepan. Add the remaining brown sugar, a generous spoonful of The Warrior Blends Pumpkin Spice Latte blend, 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.

Use a potato masher to smash the pumpkin and combine the ingredients. Simmer gently over low heat, about 45 minutes, stirring often, until the mixture thickens into a smooth, velvety butter that fills the kitchen with warm fall aromas.

Taste and adjust the sweetness or spice to your liking. Once cooled, spoon the pumpkin butter into jars and store in the refrigerator.

This simple, slow process coaxes out the natural sweetness of the pumpkin and deepens the flavor of the spices, perfect for spreading, swirling, or sipping all season long. Also, you can cook this in a slow cooker. Just roast the pumpkin or use your favorite puree, add remaining ingredients and cook 3 to 4 hours on low.
